AUCHI - A student of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, Osaigbokan Okaro is currently battling in hospital for his life following alleged beating to pulp by his landlord who is also a lecturer in the institution over domestic differences.
The gladiator, Dr. Philip Aiweriale who THE NIGERIAN OBSERVER learnt is a Chief lecturer in the Polytechnic, was said to have violently boxed the 18-year-old student in the head and body until he collapsed
The victim, it was gathered, was rushed to a private hospital for treatment where he allegedly laid in critical condition before he was referred to the Central Hospital, Benin for further medical attention.
It was also gathered that the student received intensive Medicare for poor audition resulting in the pounding of his head with blows; a development that prompted the doctor to refer him for further treatment to prevent
permanent morbidity.
Contacted, Dr. Aiweriale admitted that the student tampered with his electricity metre resulting in its burning but threatened that someone would be in trouble if the story was published when he realised he was speaking with a journalist.
A competent police source confirmed to THE NIGERIAN OBSERVER that the lecturer and parents of the student were negotiating settlement, while the medical bills were being shouldered by the lecturer, adding that the victim was still receiving treatment. Contacted, Dean, students Affairs of the Polytechnic, Mr. George Umoru who also confirmed the incident, said however that the matter was not within the jurisdiction of management as it was not officially reported to the institution.
